How to Choose a Disposable Vape
Updated 2026-11-03 · 5 min read
There are hundreds of disposables on our shelves, and the boxes all shout big numbers. Here is what those numbers actually mean, and the questions our staff ask when someone wants help picking one.
1. Puff count: how long it lasts
The puff count on the box (9K, 25K, 50K) is the maker's estimate in a lab, using short, even puffs. Real life is usually less, because longer pulls and boost modes use liquid faster.
A bigger number mostly means a bigger tank and a rechargeable battery. If you vape now and then, a smaller device often runs out of battery or goes stale before you finish a huge one.
2. Nicotine strength
Most disposables list nicotine as a percentage of the liquid. 5% (about 50 mg per mL) is the most common and the strongest you will usually see. Some lines also come in 2% or 3%, and a few are made with no nicotine.
If you are used to lower strengths, look for those versions instead of assuming every device is the same. Ask at the counter and we will tell you which flavors come in which strengths.
3. Screens, modes and charging
- Battery and e-liquid screens show how much is left, so you are not guessing when it will run out.
- Boost or turbo modes make bigger clouds and stronger flavor, but use up liquid and battery much faster.
- Nearly all larger disposables recharge with a USB-C cable. A charge usually lasts a day or two; the liquid runs out long before the battery wears out.
- Adjustable airflow lets you choose a tighter or looser draw.
4. Flavors
"Ice" in a flavor name means a cooling effect added on top of the fruit or candy flavor. If you do not like menthol-style cooling, skip the ice versions.
Tell us two or three flavors you already like and we can point you to similar ones across RAZ, Geek Bar, Lost Mary, Fume, HQD and other brands we carry.
5. Storage, safety and disposal
- Keep vapes away from children and pets. Nicotine e-liquid is poisonous if swallowed.
- Do not leave a device in a hot car or in direct sun. Heat can damage the battery and make it leak.
- Stop using a device that is swollen, cracked, leaking or gets hot.
- Do not throw a used disposable in the regular trash or recycling bin. It contains a lithium battery, so take it to a battery or household hazardous waste drop-off. Seminole County runs one.
